When someone talks about ancient royal culture and giant palaces, the name of Jodhpur city never lags. The Marwari culture and tradition are reflected by its famous forts and palaces that portray the sacrifices and victory of the kings and the rulers of Jodhpur.

If you are traveling to this city, you must know about its famous forts and palaces that are being titled as the pride of this city.

Here is the list to make you understand better.

  • UMAID BHAWAN PALACE

It is one of the world’s largest private residences. It was built by Umaid Singh; one of the rulers of Jodhpur in the year 1943, and Henry Vaughan Lanchester, who planned out the layout for this palace. It was believed that Jodhpur city was cursed by a saint, who said that this city will face a period of drought. This curse turned out to be true and many farmers were unemployed. In order to help these farmers and give them employment opportunities, Maharaja Umaid Singh decided to build a palace; hence, Umaid Bhawan was constructed.

It is built with Makrana marble and golden-yellow sandstones. At present, it is owned by Maharaja Gaj Singh II; grandson of Maharaja Umaid Singh.

  • JASWANT THADA

This fort has seven gates (pole), each depicts a triumphant narrative of the yesteryear’s warrior that fought to defend Mehrangarh Fort. It also resides Chamunda Devi; a Hindu goddess temple, which was considered as Isht Devi of Rao Jodha’s family. The fort acknowledges the impressions of the battlefield with the cannon and cannonballs used at the time of war. The entire Blue City is visible from the ramparts of the fort (the houses in the old city are painted blue; hence, Jodhpur is known as the Blue City of India). It also appreciates the royal culture which is seen in the Museum accommodated by Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Daulat Khana, Moti Mahal, and Sileh Khana.
