This intricately crafted Jaswant Thada, a white marble commemorative tomb, was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh in 1899 in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. It completely featured with marble lattice screens and whimsical domes intricately sculpted by ultra thin sheets of marble and masterly polished.

The inside is adorned with portraits of Rathore rulers. It’s a peaceful place to relax and enjoy stunning views of the Fort and city. Many a tired tourist sprawls on the front lawn to recuperate after sightseeing! As it is in close proximity to Mehrangarh Fort, just down the road from its an easy walk and you may be tempted to walk on by but don’t miss this. What the Fort is to grandeur and magnificence so this is a small oasis of water, gardens, and monuments.



The tranquility of the marble construction is enchanting. Inside Jaswant Thada, you will find the portraits of the Rathore rulers. The brilliant white shining in the sun is stunning! The intricate carving is reminiscent of the Jain temples on Mt. Abu. The main memorial has been built like a temple. This includes two more tombs, gazebos, mulched garden and a small lake to view.

When sun rays touch the marble surface it emits the warm light as of light is dancing over it. There is also one of rare and splendid marble jali work on the wall of cenotaph from which the sun rays filter inside. The grounds of Jaswant Thada consist of a stunning multilevel garden, intricately carved gazebos and a pond adds more peacefulness to this place. It is the “Tejo Mahalay” of Rajasthan. It is made from the same marble that was used in the Agra “Tejo Mahalay”. 


The Makarana marble is among the best quality of marbles available in the World. Sunlight passes through the marble and as a mandate one must visit this place in the daytime as well it is truly a gem, offering huge photo opportunities, especially at sunset. This is the monument for remembrance. All the Maharajas are cremated outside and their photos are kept here.


You approach along a causeway with a small lake hosting cranes and ducks. Climb sandstone steps to a garden with flowers, jasmine and water courses – ease into this and enjoy the views. Then you can move into the temple and listen to the flute players and just chill out. It is a delightful and warm place to ease away some time. Take a book read, chill and enjoy.
