Every city is like a jigsaw puzzle. All the pieces are restored to complete the perplexed state, but the voids in between reflect a different phase. Each particular city comes with its pros and cons. Despite the healthy environment and welcoming nature, the urban demographies are bounded with anguish and discomfort.
Jodhpur city is the Blue City of India, which narrates a saga of triumph and sacrifices. The warm and friendly essence and the victorious Mehrangarh Fort is the self-possession of the city. Despite this, there a few things that behold Jodhpur back in a deep hole.
• POLLUTION AND HEAT
The biggest negative factor of living in an urban colony is dealing with pollution. The Sun city of India faces the maximum heat from March to October; hence, the hot and humid weather along with the dry air is responsible for many health-related diseases. The consumption of fresh air is merely less, and according to the statistics, the air pollution is 72.22 (high), and the purified air quality is 27.78 (low). Being close to the Thar Desert, the scorching heat crosses the temperature of 40 degree Celsius every summer.
The distorted ratio clearly sets an example of the increased pollution and heatwaves, and because of this, the individual is far away from living a sustainable life with nature.
• IMPROPER WASTE MANAGEMENT
The beautiful weather in the monsoon and soothing cold breeze of lakes in the deserted cities is the one way of connecting with nature. But amid this, the over-flooded old city with inappropriate sewage marks the worst side of Jodhpur. Moreover, improper hospital waste management creates a problem at the disposal system.
• PITS ON THE ROAD
The biggest hindrance faced by the people of Jodhpur or any tourist is the pits on the road. Uneven traffic protocols, polluting vehicles, and disturbed roads contribute to the negative aspect of the Blue city. As per the reports, these pits are a clear cause of accidents including the highways. This is not only risking the life of the individuals but is creating havoc in the city. In the old town, Jodhpur, these pit holes are never-ending.
• IGNORANT CULTURE
Jodhpur city is known for its tradition and culture. The Marwari fests and Rajasthani folk music are some of the points of pride of this city. But there are some unusual cultures and traditions that are degrading this city by reflecting the narrow mentality. The classic example of this ignorant culture is “Raav Ji ki Ger.” It is celebrated during the Holi festival. The culture was to bring fun and enjoyment aboard, but the nasty and hateful self-created songs on women have degraded this culture. The vulgar accent and misogynist lyrics degrade woman safety, and they are unsafe to step out from their houses.
• CARELESSNESS
2020 was the year of self-analysing. The global Pandemic took the life of many innocent individuals. Despite the serious protocols and safety awareness, the people of Jodhpur are ignorant to see the statistical death reports and roam freely without masks and sanitation. This is contributing to the major problems in the city.
These were the few things that upset me about my own town, Jodhpur.
